Gel-X is a soft gel extension. We bond a full coverage gel tip to your natural nail with a thin layer of the same soft gel, then cure it under a lamp. There is no harsh drilling to rough up the nail and no liquid monomer like acrylic. When it is time to take it off, the set soaks off in acetone and lifts gently, rather than being filed or pried away. That gentle on, gentle off cycle is what protects the nail underneath.
What actually damages nails
Almost every horror story about ruined nails comes down to one thing: peeling. When a tip starts to lift at the edge and someone picks it off, it takes the top layers of the natural nail with it. That is what leaves nails thin, white and weak. The fix is easy: never peel a lifted tip, and come in for a proper soak off. Heavy, aggressive drilling during prep at lower quality salons is the other culprit, which is exactly why we keep prep light.
How we keep it safe
Gentle prep with no heavy drilling, tips sized to your nail so nothing is forced, a clean cure, and a careful acetone soak off at removal. We also read your nails honestly. If yours are very thin or damaged from a previous set, we will recommend a recovery plan or a shorter, sturdier shape instead of pushing length. If you are still nervous, start with our what are Gel-X nails guide, then come in and we will walk you through it.
You do not have to take long breaks between sets if they are applied and removed well. Daily cuticle oil does more for nail health than any break ever will.
FAQ
Are Gel-X nails safe?+
Yes, when applied and removed correctly. Gel-X bonds with a thin gel layer and soaks off in acetone instead of being filed away, so it is gentle on the natural nail. Most damage people blame on extensions actually comes from peeling a lifted tip.
Do Gel-X nails ruin your nails?+
No. Healthy prep, a proper soak off and good aftercare leave your nails fine. The cycle of thin, weak nails comes from picking or peeling sets off, which pulls layers from the nail plate.
Are Gel-X nails safe during pregnancy?+
Gel-X itself is low odor and applied in a ventilated space, which many find more comfortable than acrylic. As with any service during pregnancy, check with your doctor and let us know so we can keep you comfortable.
How do I keep my nails healthy with Gel-X?+
Use cuticle oil daily, wear gloves for dishes and cleaning, never peel a lifted tip, and come in for a proper soak off rather than removing sets at home. Taking an occasional break is fine but not required when sets are done well.
