Walking into a new salon can feel like a small leap, especially if you have never had extensions before, so here is the whole appointment, demystified, start to finish. Our goal is simple: you leave with nails you love and zero awkwardness about anything you did not understand along the way.

Before you arrive

You do not need to prep much. If you have old polish or a previous set on, you can leave it, we will handle removal as part of the appointment, just mention it when you book so we can plan the time accordingly. The most useful thing you can bring is inspiration: a screenshot, a Pinterest board, even a rough idea like "almond shape, medium length, something neutral." If you show up with zero idea, that is completely fine too, that is what a decade of shaping nails is for.

When you arrive

We start with a quick chat about what you want: shape (almond, square, coffin, squoval), length, and color or art. Not sure? We will suggest what suits your hands, your daily routine and how much upkeep you actually want to do. This conversation matters more than people expect, a shape that looks great on someone else's hands is not automatically the right call for yours, and we would rather talk it through for two minutes than redo it later.

If you type into a nail file for a living, garden, play an instrument, or do anything hands-on daily, mention it. Length and shape recommendations change a lot based on what your hands actually do all day, not just what looks good in a photo. Someone who cooks constantly or works with their hands may be steered toward a shorter, sturdier shape even if a longer style caught their eye online, simply because it will hold up better and feel more comfortable in daily life.

During the service, step by step

For a Gel-X set, the process runs in a consistent order: gentle prep of the natural nail (light buffing, not heavy drilling), sizing a soft gel tip to each individual nail, dehydrating and priming, bonding the tip with gel and curing it under the lamp, shaping the free edge, then color and finish. A full set runs about an hour to ninety minutes depending on length and art; a gel manicure without extensions is quicker. You should not feel pain during any of this. Filing pressure and the lamp's warmth are normal; if anything feels sharp, hot or uncomfortable, say so immediately, your tech will adjust. Before you leave
